What is the Corona Virus?

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a communicable respiratory disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus that causes illness in humans.

The disease caused by the novel coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, China, but it has now spread throughout the world. It has been named coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19):
‘CO’ stands for corona,
‘VI’ for virus, and
‘D’ for disease. Formerly, this disease was referred to as ‘2019 novel coronavirus’ or ‘2019-nCoV.’

The disease spreads from person to person through infected air droplets that are projected during sneezing or coughing. It can also be transmitted when humans have contact with hands or surfaces that contain the virus and touch their eyes, nose, or mouth with the contaminated hands.

People may be sick with the virus for 1 to 14 days before developing symptoms. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment.

Infected people may experience:

  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Tiredness
  • Difficulty breathing(severe cases)

To keep you and others safe, Do:

  • Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze
  • Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell
  • Stay home and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell
  • Don't:

  • Touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if your hands are not clean

There is no specific medicine to prevent or treat coronavirus disease (COVID-19). People may need supportive care to help them breathe.

If you have mild symptoms, stay at home until you’ve recovered. You can relieve your symptoms if you:

  • Rest and Sleep
  • Keep Warm
  • Take plenty of fluids
  • Use aroom humidifier or take a hot shower to help ease a sore throat and cough
